2012 - Summer Solstice June 20 2012 (it was a leap year) was held at the Victoria Park Pavilion. Alysha Brillinger returned this year and Ashley MacIsaac was the featured musician. It was a beautiful hot summer evening filled with stunning vocals by Alysha and foot stomping Cape Breton Fiddle Music by Ashley MacIsaac with Barbara Magone.
2011 was another memorable evening on June 21, 2011. The 2011 Celebration opened with an amazing performance by Alysha Brillinger, a local musician who is attracting great attention. She won the 2008 BLUES YOUTH, LEGACY CONTEST for her music "which is like champagne-it's pretty bubbly, the lyrics are tasty and it always leaves you with a good buzz." Alysha's father lent her his guitar for her 14th birthday and she's never looked back. Everyone in the audience wanted to hear more from Alysha who could have "held the stage" for another hour or two. But everyone was also waiting to hear Steven Page, the featured musician of the celebration.
Well known as the cofounder of the Barenaked Ladies, Steven is now making a great name for himself, with many high profile performances and Page One, his first solo release. He explains that it explores the themes of “love, loss and new beginnings” and represents “a vision of today and tomorrow.” Steven explains that his new music “has a different kind of resonance” and everyone agrees that “it is the most distilled expression of Steven Page”. Held at Federation Hall on the University of Waterloo Campus, it was a very special evening for music lovers and supporters of HEARTWOOD PLACE. 2011 Photo Gallery
2010 The inaugural Celebration of the Summer Solstice in 2010 was a marvelous success with music-and some favourite stories - of Murray McLaughlan joined by Dennis Pendrith. Held at the Hacienda Sarria, it was a wonderful way to begin the tradition for Heartwood Place to host another event featuring exceptional music.
