BUY SOME BRICKS was created as a campaign several years ago to raise money to help HEARTWOOD PLACE build and manage more affordable housing. With our well-known mascot "Mortimer the Brick"- better known as "Morty"- we have promoted this campaign in many venues. We have sold "Red Bracelets" at Home Hardware Stores, Paper Bricks which were displayed on the HEARTWOOD PLACE House and we have red T-Shirts with the Buy Some Bricks trademark. We also had the 1% Challenge in which local businesses gave 1% of their proceeds for a day, a week, a month or a year! Leading this promotion was Terry Voulcaridis of the Country Boy Family Restaurant. Terry supported the 1% Challenge for an entire year and donated almost $20,000 to BUY SOME BRICKS!
Our most recent promotion has been selling Chocolate Bricks made by Reid’s in downtown Galt. These delicious chocolate bars are a great way for everyone to support HEARTWOOD PLACE. "Small Bricks" at $2 or "Large Bricks" at $5 are a delightfully delicious way to raise money. The Chocolate Bricks have been sold at churches, bazaars, stores, offices, schools and at the Chamber of Commerce in Cambridge. It’s a fun way to raise funds and, at the same time, enjoy a tasty treat.
We need everyone’s support to address the needs of 10,000 people on the waiting list for a safe, affordable "place to call home". Help us make this happen by selling "Chocolate Bricks" or host the 1% Challenge at your business. Here are some examples of how you can participate!
Host Buy Some Bricks
Buy Some Bricks can be used as a "point of sale" campaign. Your customers can Buy Some Bricks at the check-out and take home a delicious Chocolate Brick or you can sell Red and White Paper Bricks, have customers write their names on them and then create a "wall of bricks" in your store.
Another option is to host The 1% Challenge and contribute 1% of your sales for a specified period of time to the Buy Some Bricks Campaign.
There’s also the opportunity to link Buy Some Bricks to a feature-of-the-week and contribute $2 to HEARTWOOD PLACE each time a customer purchases a special product, orders the special entrée, etc. We will provide a promotional item for your customer to take home which will remind them that they have helped create affordable housing.
Through this program, you will increase promotion for your business. You will receive recognition on our website, on signs and in the media. Your business will be recognized for its concern about the need for more affordable housing in our region. HEARTWOOD PLACE staff and volunteers will help ensure that this program a success at your location by designing a program which suits your requirements.
Schools and Service Groups
Buy Some Bricks provides an opportunity for your group to have fun while raising funds and awareness about the need for more affordable housing in our community. This program can be adapted to all educational levels and a wide range of service groups. We will provide study topics, fundraising ideas, promotional items, special visits by Morty and other guest speakers.
